Initially, in the process of looking for the next best hybrid sweet corn we experimented with many hybrids. While focusing on better varieties of sweet corn for the Midwest we put three sweet corn genes together, SU, SE and SH2 and came up with what is now called Mirai — the highest-quality, sweetest, most tender corn you’ll ever eat. It’s truly something special.

From the start, a Japanese distributor requested the Mirai seed and began to grow and sell it. Mirai is a Japanese word that stands for "taste of the future". In Japan, Mirai sweet corn is sold as a fruit.
