George and Ruth Ahrens founded Twin Garden Farms in Harvard, Illinois, in 1954. The farm is currently managed by third- and fourth-generation family members. Our focus remains, as it was on day one, on QUALITY!
In the early 1950s, George Ahrens was vegetable farming and driving a gravel truck. His desire was to be like his father and be only a vegetable farmer. So Grandma and Grandpa moved from Des Plaines, Ill., and bought the 200 acres on which Twin Gardens Farms is today. About two years later they purchased the adjacent 200 acres. And that is how the name Twin Garden Farms came to be.
From day one, George’s mantra and focus were on quality and consistency.
Through the years we have planted just about every vegetable you can imagine. We were one of the first to grow SH2 sweet corn. We were the first in the Midwest to package sweet corn in a corrugated box with ice in it. We always have been on the cutting edge.
That frame of mind led us to develop the most flavorsome corn in the world: Mirai®.
